Mikel Iruskieta is an experienced researcher and lecturer at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), as well as a member of the IXA Natural Language Processing research group. His research fields are education, communication, parsing (semantic, syntactic and discourse), and development of linguistic resources for Basque. As a lecturer, Mikel has taught classes at the Basque Language and Communication department at the Education Faculty of Bilbao and in the Language Analysis and Processing MA programme at UPV/EHU. He has co-supervised three doctoral theses, six master's theses and more than 20 bachelor's theses on education and linguistic topics. 

 

Mikel is an active member of CLARIAH-ES, coordinating the activities of the Spanish CLARIN K-centre. His responsibilities include coordinating and promoting data, techniques, and tools for natural language processing ( ) in the digital humanities (DH). Previously, Mikel was a member of the Knowledge Sharing Infrastructure Committee (CLARIN- ) and organized the "RST and Discourse Studies" workshop multiple times. He contributed to various projects, including LITHME (CA19102, European Commission) from 2020 to 2024, CLARIAH-ES (MICIIN) from 2023 to 2024, CLARIAH-EUS EJ (Basque Government) from 2023 to 2025, Deep knowledge (MCIN) from 2022 to 2025, and more.
