- Ukrainian corpora in the CLARIN Virtual Language Observatory (VLO)
- Awesome Ukrainian NLP: Curated list of Ukrainian natural language processing (NLP) resources
- Ukrainian LT: Collection of links to Ukrainian language tools
- The European Commission is urgently looking for language data in Ukrainian to/from all EU languages to train an automatic translation system supporting refugees and helpers in the Ukraine crisis. Suggestions and data sets can be sent to info [at] lr-coordination.eu (info[at]lr-coordination[dot]eu). Data sets can also be uploaded directly here.
- CLARIN K-centre for Ukrainian NLP and Corpora: Information service providing guidance on digital linguistic resources and tools for the Ukrainian language, Ukrainian dialects, other languages in Ukraine and other aspects of Ukraine's rich intangible cultural heritage in both written and spoken form.
- Within the ParlaMint project, which collects interoperable corpora of parliamentary debates from 30 parliaments in Europe, a Ukrainian was added.
Research, Projects, Conference Calls
- #ScienceForUkraine: Information about support opportunities at university, national, and international level for students and researchers directly affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Curated by volunteer students and academic researchers
- Saving Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Online (SUCHO): Cultural heritage professionals working together to identify and archive at-risk sites, digital content, and data in Ukrainian cultural heritage institutions while the country is under attack.
- The European Commission launched the ‘European Research Area for Ukraine (ERA4Ukraine) portal, a one-stop-shop for information and support services to Ukraine-based researchers and researchers fleeing Ukraine.
- NLP and AI research in Ukraine: a Youtube channel of the CoLInS conference 2022
- AI for Ukraine is a series of workshops and lectures held by international artificial intelligence experts to support the development of Ukraine’s tech community during the war.
- Telegram Archive of the War: Archival project documenting experiences of the war through Telegram. The project website provides links to talks and workshops on practices of digital emergency archiving.
- CLARIN.SI is providing substantial support, both in terms of financial contributions and expertise, to facilitate the ongoing development of a Ukrainian newspaper corpus.
- CLARIN has supported the participation of two Ukrainian researchers at the CLARIN Annual Conference 2023.
- CLARIN has supported the participation of one Ukrainian researcher in international training events (e.g. Digital Humanities hackathon in Helsinki) and scientific conferences (e.g. Digital Humanities conference in Graz)
- CLARIN has supported Ukrainian lecturers in delivering their tutorials at 2 international summer schools; The European Summer University in Cluj, and Romania Tutorial at DH conference in Graz.
Translation Initiatives
- The Charles Translator for Ukraine (web service and app) is a free, automatic translator for Czech and Ukrainian, developed at the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics (ÚFAL) of Charles University, The translator was developed with support of LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ, and runs on the LINDAT technical infrastructure. It was developed in record time after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has been freely available for non-commercial purposes since mid-March at https://translator.cuni.cz.
- Translators for Ukraine: Translators offering language assistance to people affected by the conflict.
- Translators without Borders provide translation and interpreting support in humanitarian efforts worldwide.
- Free Ukrainian machine translation systems developed by Tilde to support refugee efforts to integrate into the countries such as Poland and the Baltics that are giving them refuge, as well as provide direct access to Ukrainian information sources.
- Specialised machine translation systems developed by two CLARIN nodes (Czech and Finnish) to support Ukrainian migrants fleeing the war. The Czech police even took over the Czech translation system, more information here.
Jobs, Scholarships, Hosting Opportunities
- Scholarship for Ukrainian Researchers: Initiative by the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences
- Researchers at Risk Fellowship Scheme: Initiative by the UK National Academies and in partnership with the Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara)
- A Slovenian CLARIN node hosts a postdoctoral researcher from Ukraine and supports her in her Marie Curie“Seal of Excellence” project.
- The Knowledge Centre for Ukrainian Language Resources and Tools, established by a group of Ukrainian researchers residing abroad and supported by a CLARIN node in Germany, has received formal approval. They have participated in a face-to-face workshop alongside other CLARIN knowledge centres.
