Latvia joins CLARIN ERIC

Submitted by Linda Stokman on

We are happy to announce that Latvia has joined CLARIN on 1 June 2016, becoming its 18th full member.

Latvia has been involved in CLARIN activities since its preparation phase (2008-2011).

By joining CLARIN ERIC, Latvia aims to establish a CLARIN centre that will provide access to Latvian language resources and tools to the national and international research community.

First, a national Consortium and update information about the current status of Latvian language resources and tools will be re-established. In the coming years, Latvia will fill the essential gaps in Latvian BLARK (Basic LAnguage Resource Kit) and establish a CLARIN B-Centre and a knowledge centre.

Dr. Inguna Skadiņa, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Latvia has been appointed as National Coordinator of Latvia.
