Darja Fišer Appointed Executive Director of CLARIN ERIC

Submitted by Julia Misersky on

Darja Fišer has been appointed Executive Director of CLARIN . She will start the new position in January 2023. She will take over from Franciska de Jong, who has held the position since 2015.

Darja Fišer has been Vice Executive Director of CLARIN ERIC (2019-2020) and Director of User Involvement for CLARIN ERIC (2016-2019). With a background in corpus linguistics and language resource creation, she has brought the activities to stimulate the use of the CLARIN infrastructure to the next level. One of Darja Fišer’s focal points as Vice Executive Director was to maximise the integration of CLARIN’s resources and tools in both the established as well as emerging multidisciplinary research agendas, methodological frameworks and communities of practice.

As Executive Director, Darja Fišer’s main goal will be to ensure CLARIN’s leading role in the landscape of research infrastructures for social sciences and humanities, as well as organisational and financial sustainability within and beyond Europe both in academia and industry. These goals will be most successfully achieved by fully embedding CLARIN in the workflow of the relevant scientific communities. This is only possible if the services offered by CLARIN are aligned with the current research agendas (e.g. by integrating prominent research outputs into CLARIN in a timely fashion) and tomorrow’s research agendas (e.g. by integrating CLARIN into university curricula).

Darja Fišer is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Contemporary History as well as at the Department of Knowledge Technologies, Jožef Stefan Institute. She is leading the new national research programme for Digital Humanities and is serving as national coordinator of DARIAH-SI. She is also chair of the FoLLI Steering Committee of the biggest European summer school on language, logic and computation ESSLLI, and is serving as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the National Interdisciplinary Research E-Infrastructure for Bulgarian Language and Cultural Heritage Resources and Technologies, and the Czech National Corpus research infrastructure of the Institute of the Czech National Corpus at Charles University.
