 About the Winners

This year’s second Achievement Award went to a team effort of students, researchers and developers at the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics (UFAL) of the Charles University's Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (Prague), including Martin Popel (researcher, head of the team), Jindřich Helcl (researcher), Zdeněk Kasner (PhD student), Ondřej Košarko (developer), Tomáš Krabač (developer), Jindřich Libovický (researcher), David Nápravník (undergraduate student), Michal Novák (researcher) and Rudolf Rosa (researcher).

The u4u team at Charles University has developed a translation tool for Czech and Ukrainian in order to support Ukrainians in the current situation of war. The translator is publicly available and designed to help those from Ukraine to overcome the language barrier and to navigate the Czech environment.

The translator runs on the LINDAT technical infrastructure. As a result of the web service’s popularity, a mobile application has also been developed. The application allows translation between Czech and Ukrainian in both audio and text form, and phonetic transcriptions between Latin and Cyrillic are available for translations.
