LIBER’s Digital Humanities and Digital Cultural Heritage Working Group

, -

On Monday 9 April 2018, LIBER’s Digital Humanities and Digital Cultural Heritage Working Group will host the first feedback workshop for the Cultural Heritage Re-use Charter.

The workshop will focus on three of the Charter’s principles: “Openness, Interoperability and Stewardship”. The workshop aims to gather contributions and spark debate about the three principles of openness, interoperability and stewardship and their relation to the practices of research libraries. Attendance is free. The workshop is open to all staff working in LIBER libraries and interested parties.

Cultural Heritage Re-use Charter

Several European organisations (APEFCLARINDARIAHEuropeanaE-RIHS) and European projects (Iperion-CHPARTHENOS) involved in the cultural heritage domain are working together to set up principles and mechanisms for improving the use and re-use of cultural heritage data issued by cultural heritage institutions and studied and enriched by researchers.

The first step of this activity concerned the definition of generic principles that Cultural Heritage Institutions (CHIs) and researchers could both adhere to around the themes: Reciprocity, Interoperability, Citability, Openness, Stewardship and Trustworthness. A survey was set up a few months ago to gather feedback from the various communities of interest as to the relevance of the proposal made by the engaged institutions and projects, and the next step is gathering more feedback through a series of workshops and consultations.
