Sign language corpora have become important data collections for research in recent years. This workshop aims to zoom in on the potential of other types of sign language videos: on the one hand historical film and video recordings, and on the other hand present-day online videos like on YouTube. The workshop brings together people from a variety of fields:
- sign language linguistics
- deaf history
- social science research on deaf communities
- broadcasting companies
- (digital) libraries with expertise in film/video digitisation
- ethics of new technologies
- legal expertise on IPR (intellectual property right) issues and licensing
- crowd sourcing to collect data and help in collecting metadata and annotations.
