CLARIN Newsflash

Every month, CLARIN publishes a newsflash with an overview of what has been happening at CLARIN, the national consortia, etc. The newsflash is published on Wednesdays, usually the last Wednesday of the month.

Subscribing to it is the ideal way of staying informed.

1. Submissions

You are welcome to submit a news item with CLARIN-related news to us. To make sure our Newsflash remains interesting for the subscribers of the CLARIN Newsflash we have some tips and guidelines below, which will help you to provide your input in such a form that the content is clear, interesting and useful.

News items can be sent to newsflash [at] clarin.eu.

2. Structure of the Newsflash

  • Relevant – it relates directly to the reader’s research field and topics they care about.
  • Interesting – it entertains, educates or delights the reader.
  • Valuable – it teaches the reader or provides them with something they find useful.

Items for the CLARIN News section
  • should be between 60-100 words
  • should include an informative title for the item
  • Include a link to a full news item on the CLARIN website or external web page.
  • We have created a set of recognisable banners for each category. That said, you are welcome to include a related image (items in all other sections are shared without an image), which we may include in the banner. Images must fall into one of these categories:
    • own work—i.e. you took the photograph, created it yourself;
    • freely licensed;
    • public domain;
    • fair use.
Items for all other sections
  • should include a short one-sentence summary
  • should include an informative title for the item
  • Include a link to a full news item on the CLARIN website or external web page.
  • Include dates and deadlines (if any)

Generally, please keep the following in mind (see also our Style Guide):
  • Spelling. CLARIN uses British English spelling. Note that verbs take the -ise ending (i.e. realise), and nouns should end in -our (i.e. behaviour) and -re (i.e. centre).
  • Punctuation. Use hyperlinks for additional information in online texts, not brackets or footnotes.
  • Plain English. We aim for simple, straightforward writing that avoids unnecessary complexity to ensure accessibility for a wide range of users.

4. Final Editing and Publication

The text will be checked by the CLARIN Communications Team on content, spelling, grammar for overall consistency.
The Newsflash is created and published in the emailing platform MailChimp. Besides the MailChimp version, we also add a web version of the Newsflash to the CLARIN website. Publication is also shared via Twitter.
